I’ve always wanted a Les Paul Junior, and a TV Yellow one at that. For my birthday, I asked my wife to buy me a Les Paul Junior kit, so this is my first kit built. Overall, it was fun and not stressful or dificult but definitely less rewarding than building something from scratch. Having no experience building set neck guitars from scratch though, I thought this was a good way to start for my first build. This one didn’t turn out quite TV Yellow as it is a dye and not a paint, so it is pretty transparent, but I don’t mind it.
Specs:
- Guitar Kit: BYOGuitars, mahogany neck and body
- Tuners: BYOGuitars
- Pickup: GuitarFetish P90
- Finish: Hand-rubbed yellow dye. Hand-applied Crystalac BriteTone.
These frets came in super sharp, so it took quite a lot of work rounding and leveling them. Also the stock electronics and hardware it comes with isn’t great so I replaced them and the pickup too with a harness and pickup from GuitarFetish. Overall the guitar still needs a good setup, but it was an easy and pretty quick build.
